Valdosta golfer playing in U.S. Women's Amateur

August 3, 2007

Valdosta -- Valdosta-native Dori Carter will play in the U.S. Women's Amateur Golf Tournament for the second time this week.

Carter competed in the both the Amateur and the U.S. Women's Open following her high school career in 2005.

The Valdosta golfer has been a member of the University of Mississippi golf team the past two seasons, leading the Rebels in scoring average both years.

Carter says she's hoping her experience in the Amateur two years ago will play dividends this week.

"Going into this tournament, I feel a little more confident," says Carter. "I feel like I can play a little better, calm down, calm my nerves down, and really take advantage of going to the Amateur."

The Amateur tournament begins at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Indiana on Monday, with stroke play the first two rounds, followed by match play Wednesday through Sunday.
