Valdosta - A former State Representative is running for mayor of Valdosta.
Ron Borders owns a real estate business in Valdosta.
Last year, he retired after eight years as a state representative. Before that he served ten years on the City Council.
Despite plans to retire from politics, Borders says people in the community convinced him to run for Mayor. "It wasn't just one person. It was different people from different sectors so I felt there was a need to have someone in office that reflected the wants and needs of the citizens," Borders says.
Borders says expanding downtown and improving city-county relations would be two of his top priorities.
