Atlanta - There are not many teams that could lose arguably the best player in the country and a four year starting quarterback and still contend for a conference championship the following season.
But that is the case in Atlanta where Americus native Chan Gailey and his Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will hold their first practice of the season on Friday.
The Jackets may not have Calvin Johnson back but they do have 15 starters returning from last year's team that won the ACC's Coastal Division title.
The 2006 season will be remembered for the way it ended with three straight losses all by three points.
Something that motivated the Yellow Jackets during their offseason conditioning program.
Senior linebacker Philip Wheeler said"It was so frustrating that we worked out every day this summer. We didn't take a day off."
Head coach Chan Gailey said "I hope they don't ever make it peace with it. I hope a little bit of that sticks in their craw. It does in mine."
Georgia Tech opens the season September first at Notre Dame.
