Pilot still on "critical" list

August 2, 2007

Macon --  A South Georgia pilot is listed in critical condition, and his teenage passenger is in fair condition after their plane crashed Wednesday in Sumter County.

The Piper Cub went down near the Hodges Hobbies grass airstrip just south of Andersonville. 57-year-old Billy Hodges had been taking children for short flights.

Witnesses say during a turn, the plane fell about 50 feet straight into the ground. Hodges remains in intensive care at a Macon hospital.

17-year-old Logan Joiner was moved out of intensive care but remains hospitalized in Macon.

Federal Investigators were at the crash site this morning trying to determine the cause.
