Albany -- A state senator commends Phoebe Putney Hospital for helping Sumter Regional Hospital during its recent time of crisis.

Senator George Hooks of Americus thanked the Phoebe board for how the hospital helped Sumter County's medical community after that devastating March First tornado.

Hooks says the hospital didn't have to lend a hand, but they did. "Do they have to? No they don't have to, but they did, they didn't even have to be asked.  As soon as the call went out Phoebe was there and I think it speaks tremendous volumes."

Earlier this year, Hooks presented a proclamation from the state Senate honoring Phoebe for its efforts to assist the Sumter County medical community.
