Albany --  Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital hopes to have its MRI & Imaging center accredited by the American College of Radiology.

Two years ago, Phoebe's MRI & Imaging department went digital.  Recently, the MRI and Imaging of Albany on Meredith Drive received a three year accreditation after a rigorous review process.

The accreditation would mean the equipment Phoebe uses to X-ray patients meets nationally accepted standards of care.

"The data that we get from these images has allowed us to do more things with it.  So we can find smaller and smaller lesions and that's always the goal with imaging, find the lesions at it's earliest stage so hopefully treatment can start earlier," said Phoebe's Dr. Suresh Lakhanpal.

The American College of Radiology awards accreditation to facilities who meet high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation.
