Valdosta - After seven seasons of the Hatch Attack, Valdosta State football team is ready to become the Dean Machine in 2007.
David Dean's first season as head coach at Valdosta State got started officially on Tuesday with players reporting for the start of fall camp.
The first day was filled with meetings and physcials before the Blazers hold their first practice on Thursday.
Head coach David Dean has been looking forward to this day since he was promoted from offensive coordinator back in January.
Not only because he is excited about his first season as a head coach but also because of all the starters the Blazers have returning.
David Dean said "It was a lot of fun to get up there and look at our guys and know what we have a chance of doing this year. I see some excitement in their eyes. The only bad part is we have to wait until Thursday until we can actually get out on the field."
Senior wide receiver Jeffrey Felton said "Running in the summer heat it seems like this day is never going to come. You look forward to it. You build up and work hard. Now, that it is here. It is time to put the team together and shoot for the gold."
On the day the Valdosta State players were reporting for practice, Gulf South Conference coaches are predicting good things for David Dean's first season.
The Blazers are picked to finish second in the conference behind North Alabama.
West Georgia picked near the bottom at ninth.
VSU Quarterback Willie Copeland is among six Blazers to make the Gulf South preseason team along with last year's freshman of the year Cedric Jones. The Blazers defense puts three players on the preseason all conference team with defensive lineman
Travis Harrison, linebacker William Montford, Sherard Reynolds who makes it in two positions at defensive back and a return specialist.
Former Early County Bobcat Shawn Harris a special teams all-conference player for his kick blocking abilities.
Meet the Blazers day is 9:00 a.m. on August 25th at Bazemore Hyder Stadium.
The David Dean era starts September first at home against Valdosta State.
