Albany - Albany Post 30 knew they had a berth in the American Legion Southeast Regional because they are hosting the tournament in two weeks.
Post 30 proved they belong in the tournament for state champions by beating Gainesville Monday to win the Georgia American Legion title.
It is the third state title for Albany Post 30 manager Larry Cook who also led Post 30 to the Southeast Regional title and American Legion World Series the last time Albany hosted the regional in 2001.
Cook believes this year's team also has a chance to make it to the American Legion World Series.
Laryy Cook said "Our pitching is real deep. We go eight to nine pitchers deep which will carry you through a lot of tournaments." Compared to the team that we went to the regional before and won, talent wise this is a much better team."
With Albany Post 30 serving as the host team, runner-up Gainesville will be the Georgia state champion at the American Legion Southeast Regional that begins on August 17th at the Paul Eames Complex.
