Americus  -- The Georgia Hospital Association honors Sumter Regional Hospital for their recovery efforts after the March first tornado.

Sumter Regional was given the Georgia Hospital Association Chairman's Award. It's the only hospital in the state to receive the award, usually given to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to Georgia's health care community.

The 143 bed hospital was virtually destroyed when the tornado ripped through Americus.
