Anthrax scare at Doublegate home

July 25, 2007

Albany--  An anthrax scare in a northwest Albany neighborhood.

Late Wednesday night, Albany Hazardous Materials crews were still wrapping up an investigation at a Doublegate home where a suspicious package was found.

They got called out to a home on Surrey Road about eight o'clock after the homeowner found an unusual package in the mailbox. It was not delivered by the postal service and the man noticed a powdery substance on it so he called 911.

Emergency crews blocked off the area. A haz-mat specialist suited up in protective gear and conducted two anthrax tests. We know the first came back negative. At last report, they were waiting for results from that second test.
