Albany - - More police officers are about to hit the streets to help protect you. For the first time in years, the Albany Police Department will soon be at full staff.

When Albany Police Chief James Younger took over last year, APD had 43 vacancies.

Now, he says there are only eight and he hopes to fill those positions by the end of this week.

More than 30 people applied for those jobs. Seventeen are still under consideration and the Chief hopes to hire eight of them by Friday.

He says two of the applicants are former APD officers who want to return to the force.
