Peanuts sweep Redfish

Port Charlotte, FL -- The South Georgia Peanuts jump on Charlotte County early, scoring three runs in the first inning, and sweep the Redfish 3 to 1.

The Peanuts have never lost in Port Charlotte.

Austin Weilep pitched seven innings, earning his league-leading ninth win of the year.

South Georgia will begin a series with Anderson Monday in South Carolina.

Port Charlotte, FL -- The South Georgia Peanuts waited through a rain delay to beat Charlotte County 3-0 in a late finish Friday night.

The Peanuts have won four straight games, and are 12-1 all-time against the Redfish.

The teams wrap up the series Saturday at 7:05pm, with Austin Weilep going to the mound for South Georgia.

Port Charlotte, Fl. -  There is no place like Port Charlotte, Florida for the South Georgia Peanuts.

The Peanuts open a six-game road trip with a 8-2 win over the Charlotte County Redfish.

It is the Peanuts seventh win in eight games in Charlotte County Stadium as the team starts the final third of the first ever South Coast League season.

The Peanuts broke the game open with a six-run third inning.

Joey Hooft and Doc Brooks each drove in a run with singles and Johnny Washington cleaned the bases with a double.

July 25, 2007

Albany - For the second time this season, South Georgia pitcher Jerome Gamble flirted with a no-hitter.

Gamble held the Bradenton Juice hitless for 4 1/3 innings as the Peanuts settled for 3-0 win in game one of a doubleheader.

Luke Barganier broke up the no-hit bid with a single to left.

The Juice loaded the bases in the fourth inning but Gamble got out of the jam by striking out Bradenton's Zach Woodard.

Gamble worked six innings and Drew Shetrone got the save by recording three outs in the seventh.

The Peanuts scored two runs in the first inning and added a third on a bases loaded walk to Johnny Washington.

That plated Nick Prosise with the final run of the game.

The win moves South Georgia back into first place by 1/2 game over the Juice in the second half.

The Peanuts used their bats to win game two.

Mike Caruso hit a three-run homerun in the first and Johnny Washington's two-run double highlighted a six-run fourth.

Peanuts win game two of the twinbill 10-3 and now lead the Juice by 1 1/2 in the second half standings.

South Georgia is 42-15 overall and starts a six-game road trip Thursday night at Charlotte County.

Albany - The second half continues to be wet for the South Georgia Peanuts.

Tuesday's game with Bradenton was rained out.

It will be made up in a doubleheader at 6:10 p.m. Wednesday at the Paul Eames Complex.

It is the third home game that has been stopped because of rain.

The Peanuts have one game to make up with Aiken and another one that was suspended with Macon in the top of the first inning.

Albany - While the South Georgia Peanuts wait for possible disciplinary action from the South Coast League for Friday's game at Macon, the Peanuts were shut down by Bradenton 5-0 Monday night at the Paul Eames Complex.

Juice starter Lavelle Morgan and the Bradenton bullpen combined for a five hit shutout.

South Coast League President Jamie Toole says the league will hand down its punishment for Friday's bench clearing incident in Macon.

The Peanuts forfeited the game in the bottom of the seventh.

Peanuts manager Wally Backman said the team did not have enough position players after seven South Georgia players were ejected during the game.

Wally Backman and Peanuts pitching coach Buddy York were also ejected.
