Fake email scares people about increased traffic fines

July 23, 2007

Albany - - Even though many think it's a good idea to be fined for driving while on a cell phone, that's just not the law in Georgia.

An Albany newspaper printed a list of supposed new laws, but problem is, it's bogus. That word from the Governor's Office of Highway Safety.

An e-mail that circulated claimed that beginning July 1st, fines increased for improperly driving in carpool lanes, incorrectly changing lanes, driving on the shoulder, or driving under the influence.

But it was a hoax.
