Albany -- The Albany Dixie team comes up one win shy of the national tournament, losing in the state championship two games to one against Newton County.
Albany won the first game of the three-game set 4-3 Friday, but lost two one-run games on Saturday.
Newton County won Game Two 4-3, and Game Three 6-5 in the bottom of the 6th.
Gil Gillespie had tied the game at five for Albany with a two-out, solo home run in the top of the 6th.
Newton will now represent Georgia in the national tournament August 6th in Madison Heights, Virginia.

Albany -- The Albany Dixie baseball team jumped out to a 4-0 lead on Newton County in Game 1 of the Dixie Youth Baseball state championship, and held on for a 4-3 lead.
Austin Murphy earned the save on the mound.
The teams play again Saturday at 11am, and again at 2pm if necessary.
The Dixie Majors national tournament is August 6-11 in Madison Heights, Virginia.

Albany - The host Albany Dixie all-stars defeated Wrens 10-2 Wednesday night to capture their bracket and advance to the State Dixie Youth Baseball Major League All-Star tournament.
Albany Dixie will play Newton County American in a best two-of-three series that begins Friday night at 6:00 p.m.
Game two is Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and a third game if needed will begin at 2:00 p.m.
Newton County American shut out Troup County National 6-0 on Wednesday afternoon to win their bracket title.
Newton County American has set a tournament record by allowing only two runs in their five victories.
This series is a rematch of sorts since the two leagues met in the championship series of the DYB minor league tournament two years ago.
That tournament was hosted by the Albany National League.
Newton County American won the state title that year and many players from both squads this year were involved in that series in 2005.

Albany -- The Albany Dixie team advances to the finals of their bracket in the Dixie Youth Baseball state tournament with a 2-1 win in seven innings against Troup County.
Albany beat Troup 17-4 in the opening round of the tournament.
It was a pitchers duel until the 5th inning Tuesday night, when Drew Moody put Troup on top with an opposite field home run.
Albany would match in the top of the 6th, as Dallas Margeson scores the game-tying run on a single by Walt Matthews.
The game goes to extra innings, before Austin Murphy triples into the right field gap, scoring Sam Shellhaas all the way from first, and Brett Shepard gets the last three outs for the win.
Albany now plays Wrens Wednesday at 6pm, and a win sends them into the state championship series.

Albany -- The season comes to an end for Albany International in the Dixie Youth Baseball state tournament, as they fall 8-5 against Augusta Fleming.
International took a 5-4 lead in the top of the 5th by stealing home twice, but Josh Windsor answered back for Augusta in the bottom of the inning with a go-ahead grand slam.
The Albany Dixie team remains undefeated, as they beat Lumpkin County 6-5 in the third round of the tournament.
Albany jumped out to a 6-1 lead after David Kemp hit a solo home run in the 2nd, and Brett Shepard added a two-run shot in the third.
Albany Dixie returns to action Monday at 5pm.

Albany -- The Albany Dixie baseball team beats Winder 6-1 in their second round game in the Dixie Youth Baseball state tournament.
Albany Dixie plays its third-round game Monday at 5pm at the Dixie Field.
The Albany International team falls 7-0 against Winder, with Jake Frady powering the way with a three-run home run.
Albany International moves into the losers bracket of the double-elimination tournament, and play Monday at 11am at the Dixie Field.

Albany -- Sixteen of the best eleven and twelve year-old Dixie Youth baseball teams are in the Good Life City this week, playing in the Georgia state tournament.
Albany has two teams in the event, and they both won on the first day.
The Albany Dixie team beat Troup County (A) 17-4 at the Deerfield-Windsor lower campus Saturday morning.
They advance to play the winner of Wrens and North Macon Sunday 5pm at the Dixie Field.
The Albany International team slides past Taylor County 5-4.
They'll be back on the Dixie Field Sunday, taking on the winner of Winder and Brookwood at 9pm.
