Fire destroys several units in Hidden Oaks

July 19, 2007

Albany-- Residents in eight apartments in East Albany are homeless after a fire destroyed at least five of the units last night.

The fire started at 9:30 last night in apartment 21 in Hidden Oaks apartment complex located on 333 Mock Road.

Six fire crews were on the scene working to get the fire extinguished.

No one was hurt in the blaze, but several residents were assisted by the Red Cross and sent to a shelter. Residents living in apartments 17 to 24 were not able to return.

Firefighters say at least three of the eight units in that building were severely damaged by smoke, water and fire damage.

The Albany fire department is still trying to figure out how that fire started. Neighbors say that a police officer lived in apartment 21. He wasn't home when the blaze started. The fire is still under investigation.
