Puppy rescued from storm drain

July 18, 2007

Albany--  A happy ending Wednesday for a Labrador puppy trapped in a storm drainage in East Albany. The dog somehow fell into the drain near the Subway restaurant on East Oglethorpe Boulevard. People heard the dog barking from inside the drain for several days.

Animal control officers and Dougherty County Public Works crews lured the young puppy out of the drain with a Subway six-inch sandwich. Animal control workers say this kind of thing happens pretty frequently.

"It does happen, I think the animals get down into the drains and then can't get back out. I would like to give some credit to the wonderful men at public works who did all the hard work and rescued her from this drain" said Tamara Piercey with Animal Control. The female Black Lab did not seem to be hurt. She was taken to the Albany Humane Society, where she can hopefully be successfully adopted.
