New Darton athletic director reports for duty

July 16, 2007

Albany - A new era began Monday for the Darton College athletic program.

Newly hired athletic director Mike Kiefer officially took charge of the Cavalier athletic program.

The 31-year old Kiefer comes to Darton from Neosho County Community College in Kansas where he was the athletic director over a department that had teams in 14 intercollegiate sports.

He takes over a Darton program that has ten sports including the addition of men's and women's cross country teams in the fall.

Kiefer says he is very impressed with the facilites at Darton which is one reason why he wanted the job.

Another reason he took the job is the tremendous potential he sees for the Darton program.

Kiefer says isn't going to come in and make any immediate changes to a department.

Mike Kiefer said "I think after going through some of those meetings with some different people we will be able to figure out a plan sort of speak as to what actually needs to be done to strategically take this department to the next level."

Mike Kiefer takes over for Jane Kelly who has been serving as Darton's interim athletic director since March.

Former Darton athletic director Todd Davis is now athletic director at the University of West Florida.
