Albany -- Two women are slashed with a knife before a man takes his young daughter hostage in a central Albany home.

We have learned new information about a nearly 4-hour hostage situation that began shortly before 10 this morning.

APD officers were dispatched to a domestic dispute at 1507 5th Avenue in Albany.

When officers arrived they found two women inside the home that had been slashed with a knife.

Police say a man inside the home used the knife to take his young daughter hostage and barricaded himself inside a room. From there, the situation intensified.

Residents of this typically quite neighborhood were shocked as the situation unfolded right outside their windows.

Teresa Smith has lived at her 5th Avenue home for 30-years. She says, "I didn't know what was happening. I called my son who lives on Seventh Ave., and I said will you please come over here, something bad has happened."

When police officers originally arrived at the scene they found 6 people inside the home including three children.

Police say 30-year-old Carl Lamond Smith had slashed the mother of his children , 19-year-old Danielle Wooley in the face, and her mother, 36-year-old Georgia Seely in the neck with a knife. Both of the women were transported by EMS.

In the mean time, police were able to pull a 2-year-old boy and an infant child from the scene, but Smith took his 3-year-old daughter by knife point to a back room, barricading himself inside. At one point, police say, he held the knife to his young child's throat.

Albany Police is in charge of the investigation. "The incident commander came to the scene. The negotiation unit was called out, and the SWAT team was called," says Lt. Kenn Singleton.

Just days after the resignation of 6 SWAT officers, remaining SWAT team members entered the home, and shortly after 1 PM this afternoon, SWAT apprehended the suspect without incident. The 3-year-old child fortunately was unharmed.

With the investigation still ongoing, Smith faces a list of charges.

"We have two counts of aggravated assault, one count of kidnapping, and one count of burglary. Just from the preliminary investigation and talking with the investigation and the suspect, this is possibly stemming from a situation of being distraught over a separation between the suspect and Ms. Wooley," adds Singleton.

Over three hours after the violent situation began, it was over. A tense hostage situation that ended peacefully, without further incident.

One of the victims, 19-year-old Danielle Wooley was treated and released from Phoebe Memorial Hospital.

Her mother, Georgia Seely, who sustained a knife laceration to her neck, remains at Phoebe Memorial, she is listed in fair condition.

APD says more charges may be filed against Smith. He had been arrested in 2006 on charges of simple battery against Wooley.
