Albany-- The recent rainfall in South Georgia has the mosquito population on the verge of exploding. Dry weather for much of this season kept numbers of mosquitoes and the number of complaint calls down, but with rain becoming more frequent, Dougherty County Public Works crews say they will continue a stepped up effort to stop the pests.

"We are still being pro active in our spraying and our larvasiding. Pretty much, mostly every day that we can. Getting catch basins and places where mosquitoes breed out of, and that is the main thing if you can get them where they come out and breed from, you can stop them from flying around" said Chuck Mathis, with Dougherty County Public Works.

Crews spray five hours a night, five nights a week weather permitting. They also need your help to get rid of excess water around your house.
