Lee leaders to look at pay equity

July 10, 2007

Lee County--  A long-time Lee County department head says pay isn't equal in the county and she may run for a seat on the commission to change it.

Lee County Tax Commissioner Betty Johnson told commissioners Tuesday night that there's an inequity in pay in the county. She says some people on her staff don't get paid as much as other county workers with the same job descriptions.

Johnson wants fairness across the board and says if Jo Ealum chooses not to run for re-election, she may run for the seat to get things done.

"There are a lot of inequities still in the salaries for the county employees and I was concerned enough to ask the commission if they would consider trying to do a study on the situation because their most important asset is the county employees," said Johnson.

Lee County Administrator Alan Ours agreed with Johnson Tuesday night.  He said there are certainly some inequities and said he plans to look into the issue.
