Honor Flight set to takeoff again

July 10, 2007

Valdosta  --   South Georgia World War Two veterans are preparing for another emotional trip to the nation's capital.

Honor Flight South Georgia flew more than one hundred WWII veterans to see their memorial in Washington D. C. free, last May. The flight was paid for completely by donations.

So far they have raised nearly one hundred fifty thousand dollars, including $2,500 donated from the city of Remerton this week.

That's enough to send another hundred veterans to the memorial later this summer. "We have come a long way since then," said SG Honor Flight Co-Founder Buddy Johnson.  "We have our second trip scheduled.  It's paid for.  It is going to be on august eleventh.  We're taking off at eight thirty in the morning on Saturday morning August eleventh with one hundred sixty eight souls on board."

They are now collecting donations for their third trip, which has nearly 40 veterans already signed up.
