Woman crushed between trucks

July 11, 2007

Doerun -- A woman was killed in downtown Doerun after she was struck by a passing truck. Investigators say 911 calls came in around 11:13 AM Tuesday.

Eyewitnesses say the driver of a white Chevrolet pickup carrying electrical supplies, parked, and got out of the truck on North Green Street.

47-year old Khristina Hardy parked her truck and was standing near the tailgate when a black Ford F-150 with Florida tags crashed into the back of her truck. Hardy was pinned between the vehicles and was killed.

"I saw two trucks sitting in the road," said Jeanette Chatman. "So I took off running and I had my phone in my hand. I went down there and saw that there had been an accident so I called 911 and the local police department, and just assisted with what I could."

Electrical supplies were scattered across the roadway. Both trucks ended up more than 50 yards away from the point of impact. No other injuries were reported.

Investigators say charges will likely not be filed against the driver of a Black Ford F-350 that struck her.

The Georgia State Patrol was in charge of the investigation which, they say, is now complete.
