    Information from The Georgia Department of Labor- The Georgia Department of Labor says Metro Albany's unemployment rate increased to 8.7 percent in June, up three-tenths of a percentage point from 8.4More >>
    The rate increased because of seasonal factors, such as the summer job loss among non-contract school workers and temporary layoffs, primarily in manufacturing. There were 60,500 jobs in Albany in June, down by 300, or 0.5 percent, from 60,800 in May. Most of the loss came in state government and the service-related industries.More >>

A lot of activities planned for South Georgia for the 4th of July. Fireworks shows will begin at dark in downtown Albany, and at these locations:

Americus-Sumter Recreation Park in Americus

Earle May Boat Basin in Bainbridge

Cairo High School in Grady County

Veterans State Park on Lake Blackshear

At the recreation department adjacent to the Terrell County Airport in Dawson

J. C. Adams Park in Douglas

Fort Gaines off Highway 39 north of town

Paulk Park in Fitzgerald

Tom's Pond in Lake Park

Memorial Park in Nashville

Agrirama in Tifton

Along Norman Drive in Valdosta

At many of the locations activities start earlier in the day and culminate with the fireworks show. There will also be fireworks following the Peanuts' game at Paul Eames Sports Complex in Albany.
