Charges filed in pedestrian death

June 28, 2007

Thomasville-- A Thomasville man is charged in the death of a pedestrian Tuesday afternoon.    The state patrol's specialized collision reconstruction team gathered evidence at the crash site today.

They say 38-year-old Kenneth Willis was walking along the south shoulder of Summerhill Road around 3 p.m. Thirty-eight year old Alton Townsend was also headed south when he lost control of his car, drove off the road into a ditch, and hit Willis.

"We're using forensic mapping equipment which marks all of our locations, our points so we can go back and do computer generated drawings from the evidence we have mapped here today," said GSP Trooper 1st Class, Glenn Morgan.

Willis was taken to Archbold Memorial Hospital. He died there around 7:45 that evening. Townsend is charged with 1st degree vehicular manslaughter,  failure to maintain a lane, and driving too fast for conditions.   Additional charges are pending.
