Southern Hospitality spreading

June 28, 2007

Valdosta - A volunteer program that fixes up homes for the elderly and disabled in Valdosta could spread to other south Georgia cities.

Volunteers with the Southern Hospitality Workcamp are wrapping up their week in Valdosta.

Thursday they got a visit from leaders of the Southwest Georgia Regional Development Center.

They want to preserve current housing in the region and believe more workcamps like this could be the key to achieving that goal.  "Trying to rehabilitate the current housing stock. The concept they have here is unique, it's doable in our counties and we would love to see it happen in the 14 counties in our region," says Barbara Reddick of the SWGRDC.

Some of the counties in the region include Thomas, Colquitt and Terrell.

They hope to have a workcamp ready to begin in the next six months.
