Homerville - The Federal Bureau of Investigation spent several hours Tuesday combing through the Clinch County Courthouse.

Agents say they were conducting a search for several hours at the courthouse as part of an investigation targeting some Clinch County government employees.

They would not comment further about the investigation or if it was tied to the questionable account maintained by the clerk of courts office.

An audit into that account noted that five employees collected nearly $70,000 beginning in 2002.

That audit has been sent to the District Attorney, the Governor's Office and the Alapaha Judicial Circuit to determine if anything illegal occurred.
