Cordele -- Crisp County Emergency Management has a new ride in town.

A new state of the art Mobile Command Center was accepted today by Sheriff Donnie Haralson.

No local tax dollars were spent on the $275,000 command center which will serve the region surrounding Crisp.

Sheriff Haralson believes the command center will play an essential role in emergency communication within the region.

He says, "this will enable us to coordinate everybody together , put everybody together and enable us to talk on the same channel. So if we have a helicopter from GSP, we may have a unit from another county or a city, we can tie them all together and everyone can know what's going on."

The Freightliner Command Vehicle will aid in situations such as floods, missing person searches, and large scale public events.

The new command unit was donated by grant funds from Homeland Security.
