Albany - The co-author of the Phoebe factoids has started his own surgical practice to cut ties with Phoebe Putney Hospital. Dr. John Bagnato began seeing patients at Palmyra Surgical last week.
He says he left Albany Surgical because there was simply too much tension working at Phoebe. Bagnato and his office manager, Dr. Charles Rehberg, sent out anonymous faxes over a couple of years that criticized Phoebe administrators and the hospital's financial practices. "It was inevitable that I needed to get off the staff at Phoebe," said Bagnato. "The hostilities between me and the administration had just reached the point where I wasn't comfortable practicing there."
Palmyra Surgical is independent of Palmyra medical Center, though Bagnato says he looks forward to continue to work there since he no longer has medical privileges at Phoebe.
