Former Bainbridge preacher arrested

June 25, 2007

Bainbridge -- A former minister who's been on the run from child molestation charges, is now in a South Georgia jail.

46-year-old David Barrett was pastor of the house of the Living Waters in Bainbridge. A 15-year-old member of his church accused Barrett of molesting him, so Barrett took off to Costa Rica.

He was found and arrested in March and was extradited to the United States Friday night.

"It's a difficult process and we're just fortunate that everything finally, it took a long time but, we're fortunate that it finally came together and we were able to get Barrett back from Costa Rica," said Capt. Gale Bowyer of the Decatur Co. Sheriff's Office.

Decatur County deputies took custody of Barrett from U. S. Marshals at the Albany airport on Friday. He was denied bond at a hearing this morning, and is now in the Decatur county jail.
