Valdosta  --  The T-38's and T-6's of the 479th Flying Training group at Moody Air Force Base are a familiar sight to anyone living in Lowndes County, but now they have officially vacated the air space over South Georgia.

The group was deactivated in a ceremony at Moody Wednesday as part of a military-wide realignment program.

But their hangar's won't stay empty for long. Starting in August, the A-10 Warthogs, part of the historic Flying Tigers, will be moving in and will bring about 1,000 new airmen with them.

The 479th's aircraft have moved to other Air Education and Training bases around the country.
