Officer arrested on sex crime; investigated by fellow officers

June 20, 2007

Albany - - A police officer arrested Tuesday night for picking up a prostitute is being investigated by one of his fellow officers. But is this proper protocol?

36 year old Sergeant Derrick Cade was arrested Tuesday night for aggravated sodomy.

Police say Cade used a police vehicle to pick up a prostitute on South Harding Street. Then, they say, he took her to the Townhouse Motel on West Oglethorpe to have sex.

Cade is being suspended without pay, and APD is investigating this case - even though, Cade himself is an investigator with APD.

"We're doing the right thing, and we'll handle it like any other case," Lt. James Williams told us over the phone Wednesday.

We requested an interview with Police Chief James Younger about this issue. Our call was not returned.
