Senior center has reason to hope

June 19, 2007

Albany -- The Gray Senior Center on Turner Field Road may receive help to keep its doors open, at the expense of the County Rec Department.

The Dougherty County Commission Finance Committee voted to take $20,000 in recreation money and give it to the senior center.

The center has repeatedly had problems finding outside help with funding. Commissioners said they hope this is a one-time commitment and they have no plans to add it to the regular budget.

The city of Albany has also pledged $20,000. The full commission must vote before the money is approved.
