Albany -- An Albany woman originally charged with murder pled to a lesser charge and was sentenced to a year in jail and five years probation.

Last June 16th, Lawanda Dawson hit Alfred Sutton in the head with a gin bottle at his home on Cordele Road. He died the next day.

Dawson was originally charged with murder, but that charge was dropped after an autopsy showed Sutton died of asphyxiation after he collapsed in the bathtub.

Dawson plead guilty to aggravated assault and was sentenced today.
