Albany -- A local Pastor says his church's unique programs helped him get elected President of the Southern Baptist Convention's Pastors' Conference.

Sherwood Baptist Church Pastor Dr. Michael Catt was elected to the post Monday at the Southern Baptist Convention in San Antonio.

Catt has been Head Pastor at Sherwood for 17 years and served in the Ministry since 1971.

One of the reasons for his election was Sherwood's movie ministry which produced the huge hit "Facing the Giants."

"This is the smallest church in the smallest community that's ever had this recognition," said Catt.  "I think what God has done through Sherwood is the reason this happened. It's very little to do with me."

Catt's duties will be to lead and preach at the Pastor's Conference in Indianapolis in June 2008.

The Southern Baptist Convention includes 16-million members worshipping in 42,000 churches in the United States.
