Albany - Three key bats in Wally Backman's lineup for the Peanuts this season have been Doc Brooks, Steve Garrabrants and Jon Zerenque.
The trio are no strangers to Wally Backman as they played for him in the California League three years ago.
Brooks, Garrabrants and Zerenque enjoyed their finest seasons in pro ball playing for Backman in 2004.
And their offensive production has returned now that they have been reunited with their skipper here in the South Coast League.
Jon Zerenque said "The first year I played for him was probably the best time I've ever had playing baseball. He makes it really fun and you learn a lot. The guy knows a lot about the game."
Doc Brooks said "Because he doesn't panic in certain situations. He just keeps a level head. That rubs off on his players if they see their manager staying calm and ready."
Wally Backman has been selected for innduction into the Lancaster RedHawks Hall of Fame later this year.
Backman led Lancaster to the California Leauge championship series in 2004.
