Callaway Gardens, GA - Albany television station WALB received five GABBY Awards from the Georgia Association of Broadcasters.
WALB competed against stations in Augusta, Columbus, Macon, Savannah and Thomasville-Tallahassee. For the 3rd consecutive year, WALB was named "Television Station of the Year", and "Community Service Station of the Year."
News Anchor Dawn Hobby was named "Best TV On Air Personality"; "Best Feature Story" was awarded to Ben Roberts for "Sex Offenders"; Production Manager Jim Bernhardt accepted the award for "Best Commercial," produced by Jerry Nolan; while Marketing Manager Don Norman accepted the "Community Service Award."
Additionally, WALB Sports Director Robert Hydrick received two Merit Awards for Best Sports Story and Best Sportscast.
WALB Vice President & General Manager Jim Wilcox says, "We're pleased that our staff was recognized by the industry for our work in serving the community. WALB is in the smallest television market in the state, so these awards reflect our level of commitment to our viewers. My personal thanks to each of our 100 dedicated employees."
