Former big league shortstop ready to join Peanuts

June 8, 2007

Albany - The South Georgia Peanuts lineup will soon have a former major leaguer.

Shortstop Mike Caruso, who has played with the Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals, has been working out with the team this week and will sign a contract when he is in playing shape.

Caruso was a second round draft pick in 1996 and had a terrifice rookie season with the Chicago White Sox in 1997.

He could not duplicate that season and was back in the minor leagues within a few seasons.

After playing a season of independent baseball in 2004, Caruso has been out of the game for the last three years.

Caruso believes the time away from the game will help in his comeback with the Peanuts.

Mike Caruso said "Just took a step back and looked at it from the outside in. Doing a lot of thinking. Thinking about the game. Basically, it was a good time to just take a step back on and reflect on what I accomplished and things that I have done in the past."

Mike Caruso is expected to join the Peanuts either in their series at Aiken which starts on Monday or when the Peanuts return to Albany to play Macon on Thursday.
