Representative Norwood died on February 13, 2007, and his office became vacant the next day. The staff of the vacant office will continue to assist constituents who have cases pending with the office.
Ten candidates qualified and paid the qualifying fee of $4,950 for the special election to be held on Tuesday, June 19. If no candidate receives a majority of the vote, a run-off election will be held Tuesday, July 17.

The election will be held in the following counties: Banks, Clarke, Columbia, Elbert, Franklin, Greene, Habersham, Hart, Jackson, Lincoln, Madison, McDuffie, Morgan, Oconee, Oglethorpe, Putnam, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Wilkes, and part of Richmond.
The election is a non-partisan special election with no party primary. However, each candidate's party affiliation will be listed on the ballot.
Polls will be open from 7:00 am until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, June 19, 2007. There are 322 precincts in the 10th Congressional District.
