Valdosta -- Fire officials believe two wildfires in Lowndes County were started by arsonists.
Georgia Forestry and Lowndes County investigators say there were multiple points of origin on both fires - one on Skipper Bridge Road and another on Tower Road. The fires burned about 52 acres.
Chief Jim Fielding of Lowndes County Fire and Rescue is giving a strong warning to anyone thinking of starting a fire in the county. "The governor and the State of Georgia and the commission of Lowndes County will not tolerate arson. The state fire marshal's office offers up to ten thousand dollar rewards for information on arson," said Fielding.
Fielding said convicted arsonists face a prison sentence and extensive fines.
