Valdosta -- The City of Valdosta is close to a new budget, and it appears there will no tax increase.

Despite a $15 million increase in Valdosta's 2008 budget, city leaders don't plan to raise the millage rate.

The new budget includes a $1.7 million increase for the police department, to pay for four new truancy officers and an increase in training.

"The police department has dramatic increase in their budget for training and the fire department as you see fire houses being renovated," said Mayor John Fretti.

The 2008 budget must be approved by the end of June.
