Mobile home fire raises AFD suspicions

May 25, 2007

Albany --  A mobile home went up in flames at an East Albany trailer park.   Just after one Friday afternoon, firefighters were called Georgia Mobile Estates on Cordele Road where they found an abandoned trailer burning.

This is the trailer park that's being abolished to make way for a Wal-Mart store.

Firefighters think it may have been arson.   "Yes, I'd say it's suspicious, due to the fact that no one is living in it, and no power on it," said AFD Battalion Chief James Sanders.

The trailer park manager says the mobile home has long been empty, but he has seen people going in and out of it.

Police say this trailer park is a haven for drugs and prostitutes.

People who live there have until July 31st to get out because the park is being abolished to make way for a new WalMart store.
