Albany - Albany's city manager is being sued for defamation by the former city finance director. Shirley Smith says Lott defamed her by making statements to the media that were misleading, and that as a result, she has sustained damages in the form of lost wages and hasn't been able to get a job because of those defamatory remarks.

She is seeking a minimum of $100,000 in compensatory damages and is also seeking punitive damages. She was fired in September after 20-years on the job.
