Valdosta - Valdosta State knew they had big shoes to fill when they went searching for the successor to retiring Blazer baseball coach Tommy Thomas.
Thomas retired after this season with an NCAA divisiontwo record 1308 victories.
The search is over and the Blazers have hired one of the top young coaches in college baseball.
Valdosta State introducing Greg Guilliams as their new head baseball coach Thursday afternoon.
Guilliams has been the head coach at Embry-Riddle, an NAIA school in Daytona Beach Florida.
Guilliams never had a losing season in 16 years at Embry Riddle where he averaged 40 wins a season and took his team to the NAIA World Series six times.
Valdosta State baseball fans know it won't be long until the Blazers are back in Montgomery at the NCAA Division II World Series.
Greg Guilliams said "But ultimately I think each year you want that team to reach its potential with the hope of having the opportunity to play against some of the best teams in the country. Which i know we will in the Gulf South Conference."
Greg Guilliams played in the Atlanta Braves minor league organization and started his coaching career when he was released by the Braves in 1985.
