Albany -- The Darton golf team begins its quest for a third straight national championship this week, as the Cavaliers play in the NJCAA national tournament.
Darton has just four sophomores on this years squad, with Troy Bartkowitz named to the All-tournament team last year.
Contributions from the freshman class will be very important this week.
Chesley Gunn is usually the first golfer out of the gate for Darton, and freshman says head coach Dale Dover is always looking for him to post a low score and set the tone for the tournament.
"We didn't step up like he wanted us to the first semester, but (the freshmen) finally came around during the end, and he just looks to me to come out and post a score around par and let the other boys work around it," says Gunn.
Dover: "Our top three players, if you average them out, they're probably as good or better than the top three in the past."
The four-day tournament begins Tuesday at 7 a.m. in Scottsboro, Alabama.
