Albany - Darton golfer Troy Bartkowicz isn't ashamed to say he got greedy when watching his teammates pick up a second national championship ring last summer.
Bartkowicz said "I want two rings."
Troy's four teammates want just one and he knows they are looking for his experience to help them deal with the enormous pressure that nationals bring.
Bartkowicz said "I am just trying to get them mentally prepared. Because it is such a big tournament."
The two time national champion Darton golf team started its season without their top player.
Troy Bartkowicz didn't play in the fall so he could concentrate on his studies.
When he returned for the spring, the rust from the layoff showed.
Bartkowicz said "It was tough getting back in the role. I didn't play in a tournament for almost a year then because I didn't play most of the summer tournaments.
Dale Dover said "He was a little nervous to start with but then he ended up winning his next three tournaments."
One of those wins came back in March at the Goose Pond Spring Fling where Troy was the only player in the field to break par on the same course where the national tournament will be played.
Dover said "We are going to count on him heavily up there to provide that lead score each day."
Bartkowicz said "I think they will all be good. I think we should all do just fine. It should be pretty easy."
And Troy Bartkowicz's confidence will certainly be a calming effect for his younger teammates as they prepare to tee off for their first national junior college tournament on Tuesday."
