Students arrested for calling a bomb threat at school

May 16, 2007

Tifton - - Two Tift County middle school students accused of making a bomb threat could be suspended and possibly expelled from school.

Police have two students in custody for calling in a bomb threat at the Eighth Street Middle School just before one Wednesday afternoon.

The principal got a call that someone informed 911 of a bomb threat at the school. Administrators acted quickly.

"At that point in time, we did our evacuation procedure here, followed our emergency management plan with those officers and evacuated the school building. We began a search of our school building which was part of that emergency management plan," says Principal Dr. Ryan Gravitt.

This is the second bomb threat at the school this year. The student who called in the first one was expelled.

The two students suspected in Wednesday's call face charges on transmitting a false public alarm.
