Albany - Mediacom's contract with Dougherty County will run out before a contract with the state goes into effect. That's why County Commissioners will most likely extend that contract through April of 2008.

The state franchise agreement will allow more vendors to compete for business across the state. County Commission Chairman Jeff Sinyard says there have been some complaints about customer service with Mediacom, but competition is likely to improve the company's performance.

He said, "Anytime you have competition, it's creates better quality, better pricing and hopefully better maintenance for all of our people."

Multiple cable companies will be allowed to enter into a state contract and operate multiple services, like cable, internet and phone.
