Dougherty County  --  People who live in one Dougherty County neighborhood are upset that an area where they requested a speed limit reduction, saw a speed limit increase.

On Westview Drive and Stage Coach Road in Southern Dougherty County, near Putney, the speed limit recently went from 35 miles per hour to 45 miles per hour. But folks who live in the area, had just submitted a request to drop the speed limit to 25 miles per hour.

A traffic study in 2002, had approved a speed limit increase, but signs were only posted within the past few weeks.

"We've got a lot of young families who've moved into the area, and have some more mature families, they spend a lot of afternoons and evenings walking and we're just concerned about the public safety aspect of it," said  Commissioner John Hayes.

A new traffic study is currently underway to see if a speed limit reduction would be allowed by department of transportation guidelines.
