Albany-- Alice Coachman Elementary school teacher Sherri Stone was named Dougherty County's teacher of the year at a banquet at the Hilton Garden Inn Thursday night. She and the other finalists got the red carpet treatment. They were each picked up in a stretch limo and taken to the dinner in their honor.
This is the second year the banquet was paid for by the community. School system spokesperson Brenda Horton said, "It just shows to the teachers and the Dougherty County school system that the community is behind us and they are supporting us."
The district also honored its 46 educators who are retiring this year.
