Albany - Folks looking for fresh fruits and vegetables will soon have a new place to shop in Downtown Albany. A new non-profit group is making plans to open a Farmers Market downtown each Saturday.

The Southwest Georgia Food Alliance's main goals will be to give people a reason to come downtown and to help farmers turn a profit.

Shirley Sherrod said, "If farmers are allowed to bring produce in and if customers come, we all benefit."

The only snag in setting up the farmers market, is that the non-profit must have a $1 Million insurance policy. The Southwest Georgia food alliance will meet tomorrow to discuss plans for opening day, June 9th.

Anyone interested can attend. It will be held at 230 S. Jackson Street at 9:30 Thursday.
